Finding the right Yoga Teacher for you

Hi David,

Finding the right yoga teacher is an important first step
when you decide to begin practicing yoga. There are several
considerations you will want to be aware of before you
enroll in a class.

Let's take a minute to look at what you will need to know
about the teacher of the class before you decide he or
she is the right one to help you meet your goals.

First, know your goals. Look for a teacher who will be
willing to help you achieve those goals. One thing to
look out for is "pie in the sky" claims about what that
teacher can help you to do.

The teacher should be realistic in claims of how much he or
she can help you accomplish within a certain period of time.
It is important that you have set realistic goals, and that
you know whether or not the teacher's ability to help you
is realistic as well.

Look around. Don't just settle for the first teacher
you happen upon. It's not a bad idea for you to talk to
your friends and coworkers, and anyone else you may know
who is in a yoga class.

Find out what they think of the class they're in and how
well they like the instructor. Judgments made this way are
usually the most credible because no one will brag on a
teacher whom they do not think is doing a good job.

Also, before we get too far with this, make sure you
know what type of yoga you are wanting to practice.

This is very important because you may find an instructor
you like, but who does not teach the particular technique
you are interested in. However, some instructors are
knowledgeable in many forms of yoga, and hold classes to
accommodate these varying interests.

Price is also a consideration in finding the right yoga
teacher. Look around and find out what the average
charge is for yoga classes, and then be on the lookout
for those who are charging more than this average.

It's not worth it to break your budget to get into that
class. Also, be wary of any teacher whose main goal
is to sell you additional items.

While it is good for the teacher to have available apparel
and gear for yoga, they should not be focused on getting
you to spend more money on things you may not really need.
In truth, yoga requires very little in terms of gear and
clothing expense.

Warm Regards,
